| September 24, 2001 Two tornados strike the Washington, DC area. The strongest tornados in decades, one results in three deaths. This tornado passed by my house as it was forming. I was stupid enough to be standing outside watching, when it hit suddenly and quickly. Other than a smack on the head by a fibreglass planter, I was uninjured while I tried to save my patio furniture. Even though I found it oddly exhilarating after the fact, I was scared out of my wits when it happened, and recommend that you never go outside just to see if a tornado is actually coming... By the way - contrary to what Discovery channel says, there was no train-like roar... |
The Tornado in my Back Yard
Captured by the live camera - set to refresh every 10 seconds, the sideswipe of the tornado lasted about 30 seconds.
