Papers, please

The ever-efficient U.S. Government has sent me my passport, and -- with the exception of my frightening photo -- I couldn't be happier.
How nice to know that the U.S. Secretary of State is personally requesting that I be given passage into another country. What a guy...

When I was a summer intern at the U.S. Embassy in Manila, I was given a copy of the cable sent to the post which announced my arrival, signed "ALBRIGHT." She probably never actually saw any of the form letters sent on her behalf, but yeah, it's nice to know you have the Secretary of State on your side.

I used to carry my passport with me all the time. I had left it in my backpack after a trip, and just left it there. It sort of gave me a sense of "I can just pick up anytime and go anywhere!" Sadly it's just that I've been watching too much "Alias," 'cause no one ever calls me to say, "We need you in Zurich. Your plane leaves in an hour. Go!" Sigh.

Yikes, is this a comment or a journal entry? I'll stop.
