Later Than You Think

Here is my new song, "Later Than You Think" that I wrote that Sunday morning in Okemah, Oklahoma during the Woody Guthrie Festival....

Later Than You Think
By Sara Hickman

There’s no shame in wanting to change things
But you’ll have to be brave and you’ll have to keep the faith
Cuz you’re up against a very mighty empire
That has no second thought about laying you to waste

All the guns and bombs we’re building
Bring all the buildings down
As we kill for peace – and never really gain relief
Can’t we see an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind?

Why don’t we learn to come together
Why don’t we lay these weapons down?
Why don’t we live the
Peace
That each and every one of us seeks
Cuz it’s late…Yea, it’s
Later than you think

Look me in the eye and justify what we’re doing
In whose name are we building these bombs
Is it the thrill of the kill
That we still remain the same
Cuz eventually each and everyone of us
Will be gone

Men in expensive suits - houses full of greed
Children in tatters … living on the streets
How can it be such a vast dichotomy
Of all this wealth
And all this poverty
I’ve got a thought and I hope that you’ll agree

Why don’t we learn to come together
Why don’t we lay these weapons down?
Why don’t we live the
Peace
That each and every one
Of us seeks
Cuz it’s late…Yea, it’s
Later than you think

SOLO

How can it be such a vast dichotomy
Of all this wealth
And all this poverty
I’ve got a thought and I hope that you’ll agree

Why don’t we learn to come together
Why don’t we lay these weapons down?
Why don’t we live the
Peace
That each and every one
Of us seeks
Cuz it’s late…Yea, it’s
Later than you think

We’ve got to learn
How
We’ve got to start
Now
We gotta start
Today
We gotta make a new way
