Just As I Thought

Please wait 15 minutes to read this blog entry

Seth Godin writes about the silly frustration and poor customer service of Ticketmaster’s website: the screen that comes up when trying to buy tickets claims that “your wait time is approximately 15 minutes or more.”
This is another example of Ticketmaster trying to preserve that artificial high demand for event tickets; the syndrome that makes people show up to buy tickets days in advance, the syndrome that allows Ticketmaster to charge exhorbitant fees for selling you a high priced ticket.
What in the hell is the point of this website? The very idea that a website puts you in a queue for 15 minutes to purchase something makes it utterly pointless. I’ve never been put on hold to purchase something from Amazon.com, or any other web store in existence — but Ticketmaster has cornered the market in making customers feel like they’re being done a favor just by standing in line.
