This afternoon, I watched another TiVo suggestion: “Happenstance,” another of those quirky French films in the “Amelie” genre, starring Audry Tautou. This one is definitely darker than “Amelie,” and takes a bit more concentration to get through: the basic plot of the film revolves around the simple fact that one action can have wide-reaching consequences, much the way that a butterfly flapping it’s wings in the Atlantic can cause a hurricane in the Pacific. The film is a constant series of seemingly meaningless events that drive the lives of a large cast of characters; who silently enter each other’s lives without even realizing it. When you begin to realize how the fabric is being woven, it becomes a challenge to spot the threads. Fate and chance are the true stars of this one, and it was chance that brought to it me…
